Vote 2022 : A Checklist

HOW TO VOTE EARLY

By voting early, you can avoid last minute problems that might prevent you from casting your ballot & help shorten voting lines on Election Day for everyone.

Once you fill out the form below, you’ll receive a copy of your answers as a guide to help you cast an informed and joyous vote.

1) Where are you registered to vote?

Even if you think you know... you should definitely double check. Go to https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/ to check your status. Do it right now! It'll take 2 seconds.

2) When can you expect your ballot to arrive?

You can find this answer on your local elections board page. Google your city/town and "election deadlines" and you should find it. When you have confirmed when you should receive your ballot, put a reminder in your calendar to follow up if it doesn't arrive. Then proceed to step 2A.

2A) Who do you call to follow up if it doesn't arrive?

Research the number of your local elections board, and drop it here so you don't have to scramble to find it later!

3) What's your voting plan?

Get as specific as possible. What date are you going to submit your ballot, and how? Will you put it in the mail at least 3 weeks before your state's deadline? Will you drive it to a local ballot drop-off station? Will you create a socially-distanced parade with your neighbors and walk it to a polling site? In some states, you can have someone you trust drop off your ballot if you sign it ahead of time (but check the rules on your local election board website before you do this!). Whatever you decide, write it below. And also add your plan B!

4) How will you research your ballot?

What newspapers or local organizations will you follow to get an informed opinion on all the issues on your ballot? What smart friends or family members will you hit up for their opinions? Put a reminder in your calendar to start doing research *at least* a week in advance of submitting your ballot by the deadline you listed above. On presidential election years, there's A LOT of other important stuff that shows up on the ballot on a local and state level. Make sure you know the deal so you can cast an informed vote that supports the kind of world you want to live in!

5) Who else will you support on this voting adventure?

Voting is a team sport! And it's best when done with friends and loved ones. Don't assume that everyone you know has all of the details and resources they need to cast their own vote. Think about 3-5 people you might reach out to and ask how this process is going for them. Write their names below!
